Tsuyoshi Abe was born in Heilongjiang Province, People's Republic of China. He's a Chinese-Japanese actor in Japan. Of mixed Chinese and Japanese descent (his grandmother was Japanese), he is able to speak both Mandarin and Japanese fluently.
Abe's original name was Li Zhen Dong; after he moved to Japan at age 9, he changed to using his present name. He spent a year at the Beijing Film Academy at age 18.
He married Chinese actress, Shi Ke on April 26, 2009. The couple met in 2006 during the shooting of the Chinese film, Stand in Love. Their relationship was long-distanced for over two years. Abe and his wife have been separated since 2012. They have allegedly not been in contact since she returned to China.
